Greetings, Halloween night, October 31st, 1974 Ebbets Field changed the line-up from the Spirit only show...Rick Roberts and another guitar player opened the show, I remember Roberts sang his Burrito Bros. song Colorado...next was Stephen Stills who played a great acoustic solo show (facing the stage we sat way on the left near where the performers walked through to go on stage, Stills stood right in front of us for a few minutes before he went on stage...that was fun). Stills and Roberts played as a Benefit for Gary Hart who I believe was running for Sen...and after a loooong wait Spirit came on and played their set which was excellent! And that's who played at Ebbets Field, Denver, CO on Halloween Night, 1974....
ReplyDeleteThe performance of Caravan in the Ebbetts Field, November 12, 1974 is recorded and will be published as part of the forthcoming Boxset, which spans the band's (more than) fifty-year career. The setlist:
ReplyDelete1. Be All Right / Chance Of A Lifetime (6.44) // 2. Memory Lain, Hugh (9.29) 3. A Hunting We Shall Go (8.17) // 4. For Richard (17.18) // Hoedown (5.26)
Earlier on issued as a bootleg: 'For Penguins who hatch in the Polar Night', Aulica, Canterbury Tales CT 201, Italy, 1991

DeleteStumbled onto this forum today .., I was fortunate to see Chris Hillman, Michael Martin Murphy (who I believe was previously going by just his first and last name Michael Murphy) in 75 or 76 … I can tell you Michael played medium Martin strings because I walked into Ebbets in the early afternoon the day of his show and his equipment was set up on that little stage in front on the pews. I also saw a one hit wonder play at Ebbets but I don’t see him listed in 75 or 76 … Larry Groce … his hit was Junk Food Junkie … he totally reminded me of the late great Steve Goodman. Steve actually let me in the back door a small woman’s college in Denver (winter 75) where he was performing and literally walked my date and myself down to first row seats in the small auditorium. I hadn’t even bought tickets to his show yet. He invited us back stage after the show to meet his band. I played him a song I had written on his Gibson acoustic while the rest of his band played along. I’ve never forgotten that night. He was just a nice kind hearted sweet guy and he put in an awesome show.
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised to see the numerous appearances of my old band Rufus Krisp at Ebbetts Field. I forgotten about a lot of them. We, performers and audience, were so fortunate to have this cultural resource and we really need another "Ebbetts" right now!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this site! I attended a few concerts as a teen drummer looking for an avenue. I saw Return to Forever (August 8th - ??) and it changed my life. RTF was in residence, at the time, at Nederland's Caribou Ranch recording their seminal "Romantic Warrior" record that changed the landscape of Jazz/Rock fusion. Thanks for your work.
